    Moniepoint Acquires Orda to Build Full‑Stack Merchant Operating System

    The Visa-backed Nigerian fintech unicorn Moniepoint, has acquired Orda, a cloud-based restaurant management platform, as part of its push to embed payments directly into the daily operations of merchants.

    Orda will be rebranded as Moniebook for Restaurants and integrated into Moniepoint’s broader business management platform, Moniebook. The company will continue to operate as a standalone business until full integration is completed in the coming months.

    The acquisition reflects Moniepoint’s ambition to evolve from a payments processor into a full-stack operating system for African businesses, handling everything from sales and inventory to payments and financial services. It also underscores a trend in Africa’s tech ecosystem, where acquisitions are increasingly used as a growth strategy for larger startups and exit paths for smaller ones.

    While Orda operates in both Nigeria and Kenya, the deal currently covers only its Nigerian operations. About 25 members of Orda’s team have joined Moniepoint. The six-year-old startup had raised $4.5 million in seed funding in 2022.

    Why Moniepoint is Betting on Restaurants

    Nigeria’s food service market is projected to reach $12.37 billion in 2026. Restaurants already represent a significant source of transaction volume for Moniepoint, with Nigerians spending ₦8 billion ($5.83 million) daily at eateries in 2025 using its payment infrastructure.

    “Data has shown us that Africa’s restaurant sector is one of the continent’s most dynamic economic engines,” said Tosin Eniolorunda, Moniepoint’s CEO. “Yet the majority of food businesses still operate with manual processes and fragmented tools.”

    Restaurants have unique operational needs that generic bookkeeping platforms can’t address. Unlike retail stores, they track ingredients rather than finished goods, manage menus instead of simple item lists, and handle combos and recipes. Orda was built specifically for these challenges and already powers major Nigerian chains, including those under the Eat’N’Go group, which operates Domino’s Pizza and Cold Stone Creamery franchises.

    Integrating Payments and Operations

    Currently, many restaurants operate with fragmented systems sales recorded in one place, payments processed elsewhere, and reconciliations done manually. Moniepoint’s integration aims to unify this workflow.

    Under the new system, a cashier records a sale in Moniebook for Restaurants, the customer pays using a Moniepoint terminal, and the system automatically confirms the payment, closes the transaction, and generates a receipt linking both sales and payment. This eliminates reconciliation errors and gives restaurant owners a clear view of performance through the Moniebook dashboard.

    The system also prevents payments from being misdirected or routed through unofficial terminals. Over time, the transaction data can feed into Moniepoint’s broader financial services ecosystem, helping the company offer insights, working capital loans, and other tailored solutions.

    Existing Orda customers will gradually see the platform transition from Orda’s green interface to Moniepoint’s signature blue branding, with a smooth migration and continued support. “Being part of Moniebook means more tools, reach, and ways to grow your business than ever before,” said Guy Futi, CEO of Orda.

    Expanding Delivery Integrations

    Orda already integrates with delivery platforms like Chowdeck and Glovo, allowing restaurants to sync menus and receive orders directly on their dashboard. As it becomes part of Moniebook, these integrations are expected to expand, simplifying operations for restaurants handling multiple sales channels.

    Building an Operating System for African Businesses

    Moniepoint started as a payments provider but has expanded into business banking, lending, cross-border payments, and merchant tools. Moniebook, launched in 2025, combines bookkeeping, inventory tracking, and payments into a single platform. Since launch, it has processed over 12.6 million sales transactions.

    Orda’s acquisition increases Moniebook’s user base by nearly 50%, strengthening Moniepoint’s presence in the restaurant sector. The immediate goal is not transaction volume, but embedding payments directly into operational software. This approach makes switching providers more difficult and opens the door for Moniepoint to develop similar industry-specific solutions in other sectors.

    Restaurants are only the first step in Moniepoint’s vision of a full-stack operating system for African businesses.
