Reni Onafeko has been appointed as Glovo’s new Country Managing Director for Nigeria, taking over from Lamide Akinola, who has left the role after more than three years leading the company’s Nigerian operations.
Onafeko has been overseeing Glovo’s operations in Nigeria since the start of 2026 and will now lead the company’s next phase of growth, including its expansion across Lagos, Abuja, Port Harcourt and Ibadan.
Her appointment comes as Glovo continues to grow its Nigerian business. The company said Nigeria was its fastest-growing market globally in 2025, with 38 million items delivered across the country over the past year.
“My experience across strategy, finance and growth has given me a strong understanding of our business and opportunities within the market,” Onafeko said. “I look forward to working with our teams, partners and wider ecosystem to build on what we have achieved and deliver sustainable growth in the years ahead.”
Akinola announced her departure on Tuesday, bringing an end to more than five years with Glovo.
She joined the company in 2021 as Head of Q-commerce for Sub-Saharan Africa, where she helped build its marketplace for groceries, healthcare and retail products. She also led the launch and expansion of Glovo’s dark stores across the region before becoming General Manager of Glovo Nigeria in 2023.
“Building this business into an $80 million operation and Glovo’s fastest-growing market has been one of the most rewarding experiences of my career,” Akinola said.
Onafeko joined Glovo in 2023 after spending eight years in consulting, including at Boston Consulting Group in London, where she worked with executives and investors on investment decisions and growth strategies.
Since joining Glovo, she has held several senior positions, including Head of Strategy & Finance and Head of Growth.
She now takes over a Nigerian business that Glovo says has received more than ₦37 billion ($27 million) in investment since the company entered the market.
The company also said it doubled its network of partner restaurants and shops in 2025, while the economic value generated for those businesses also doubled.
With Onafeko now at the helm, Glovo will be looking to build on that momentum as it expands its delivery and commerce services across more Nigerian cities.
