SeamlessHR, a Nigerian HR tech company, has successfully secured a $9 million Series-A extension, according to sources familiar with the matter. The funding round saw participation from the Gates Foundation and Helios Digital Ventures. Previously, the company raised $10 million in its Series A round in 2022.

Since its inception in 2018, SeamlessHR has steadily grown to become a key player in Africa’s HR tech sector. Its cloud-based HR software offers a range of tools, including core HR functions, payroll, performance management, and recruitment. In 2024, the company expanded its portfolio with an e-procurement platform. SeamlessHR’s clientele includes prominent organizations such as PwC, Sterling Bank, and Lagos Business School, with operations spanning Nigeria, Ghana, and Tunisia.

Two insiders revealed that the new funds will support SeamlessHR’s plans to expand across Africa, potentially through acquisitions. Last year, the company explored acquiring a Nigerian HR tech startup. Although the initial goal was to raise $10 million, the company ultimately secured $9 million. This latest round brings SeamlessHR’s total funding to approximately $25 million.

Co-founder and CEO Emmanuel Okeleji shared the company’s vision in a statement: “Over the last five years, we have established ourselves as the leading HR and payroll software provider for medium to large enterprises across Africa. While continuing to optimize workforce productivity in both public and private sectors, we are also focusing on empowering Africans with responsible credit products that leverage employment as collateral to improve their quality of life.”

The company’s funding journey began in 2019 with a $150,000 pre-seed round from Tofino Capital and Ventures Platform, followed by a seed round in 2020 from TLCom, Capria, Lateral Frontiers, Ingressive Capital, Enza Capital, and Consonance Investment Managers.
