VOVE ID rolls out compliance readiness programme to help African startups scale

Morocco-based compliance infrastructure startup VOVE ID has opened applications for a new programme aimed at helping African startups identify and address gaps in their compliance systems before they become obstacles to growth.

The VOVE Compliance Infrastructure Program will select between six and eight startups operating in regulated or trust-sensitive sectors for tailored assessments covering Know Your Customer (KYC), Know Your Business (KYB), anti-money laundering (AML), fraud prevention, governance, and audit readiness. Applications close on August 20, after which selected participants will attend a compliance workshop and receive one-on-one readiness reviews.

The initiative comes as regulators across Africa tighten anti-money laundering rules and strengthen oversight of financial services. In March, Nigeria’s Central Bank formally recognised artificial intelligence as a tool for monitoring financial crime, while South Africa’s National Treasury introduced a draft anti-money laundering bill in January after the country exited the Financial Action Task Force (FATF) grey list in late 2025.

“Founders do not need another compliance lecture,” said Khalid Aoussar, founder of VOVE ID. “They need a practical way to understand what matters now, what evidence they should maintain, and what to fix before growth creates pressure.”

“The VOVE Compliance Infrastructure Program is designed to help startups turn KYC, KYB, compliance, and fraud controls into practical infrastructure for trust, security, and growth,” he added.

Founded in 2024 by Khalid Aoussar, Tarik Ait M’barek, Youssef Saber, and Mohammed Kamal, VOVE ID provides compliance infrastructure for regulated businesses including fintechs and payment companies across Africa, the Middle East, and other international markets.

Its platform offers identity and business verification, beneficial ownership checks, AML screening, risk management workflows, continuous monitoring, and audit-ready recordkeeping through application programming interfaces (APIs) and software development kits (SDKs).

The programme marks VOVE ID’s first public cohort and combines a live compliance webinar, a standardised readiness assessment, and personalised reviews for selected startups.

Participants will complete a 24-question compliance assessment built around six core compliance pillars before taking part in a private consultation with VOVE ID’s team. Each startup will receive a tailored readiness report identifying critical gaps, along with a recommended action plan covering priorities over the next 30, 60, and 90 days.

VOVE ID is targeting startups across Africa and other emerging markets that are either live or close to launch. Eligible companies include those building in fintech, digital lending, payments, wallets, stablecoins and crypto on-ramps, marketplaces, iGaming, mobility, trading platforms, cross-border commerce, and regulated software-as-a-service (SaaS).

According to the company, applicants must already have a defined product or business model and demonstrate a current or near-term need for stronger customer onboarding, KYC, KYB, AML, fraud prevention, banking partnerships, licensing, fundraising, or market expansion.

VOVE ID said it created the programme after observing that many startups only discover weaknesses in their compliance processes when investors, banking partners, or regulators begin due diligence.

“The programme gives startups a practical way to assess these foundations earlier, particularly as they prepare for banking, fundraising, partnerships, licensing, or market expansion,” the company said.
