Telkom is gaining ground in South Africa’s telecom space, with mobile service revenue jumping 10.2%, a key driver behind its 3.3% increase in group revenue for the year ending March 31, 2025.

The growth came on the back of a surging subscriber base, with nearly 3 million new users joining the network. Telkom now serves over 23 million mobile customers, thanks largely to a 15.4% rise in prepaid users. Mobile data demand also soared, pushing data subscribers up 19.5% to 15.2 million.

“Our mobile business continues to lead the way,” said Group CEO Serame Taukobong, crediting the results to subscriber growth and a steady ARPU of R60 (just over $3).

Beyond mobile, Telkom’s fibre unit, Openserve, delivered a 10% rise in data revenue, now accounting for over 80% of its total. The fibre network grew by 13.3%, reaching nearly 1.4 million homes.

Openserve is also expanding its infrastructure footprint beyond South Africa through cross-border partnerships—including new cable routes with Google and a planned connection linking South Africa to Angola and Brazil.

Looking ahead, Telkom is betting big on 4G/5G networks and edge computing to power digital solutions for African enterprises under its Everything-as-a-Service (XaaS) strategy.
