Senegal-based HR technology startup Socium has successfully raised $5 million in a seed funding round led by Breega, with participation from Partech, Orange Ventures, Chui Ventures, Sonatel, Outlierz, Super Capital, Evolem, Techmind, and several angel investors.

This investment aims to bolster Socium’s expansion across Francophone Africa, focusing on markets such as Morocco and the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC).

Founded in 2021 by Samba Lo and Serigne Seye, Socium began as a recruitment platform but has since evolved into a comprehensive HR solution. The platform enables businesses to efficiently recruit, pay, and manage talent, addressing critical HR needs including payroll, time management, and performance evaluation. Socium’s services are tailored to the unique regulatory and economic environments of the 21 countries within Francophone Africa, leveraging shared economic communities, close regulations, and a common currency to deliver region-specific HR solutions.

The newly secured capital will be utilized to enhance Socium’s technological capabilities, expand its service offerings, and strengthen its regional presence. The company plans to integrate its platform with tax agencies to automate filings, thereby supporting businesses with tax and regulatory compliance. Currently, Socium serves over 100 active clients across 15 countries and 10 industries, positioning itself as a key player in Africa’s burgeoning HRTech landscape.

This funding round underscores the growing demand for tailored HR solutions in Africa and highlights Socium’s commitment to addressing the HR management challenges faced by mid-sized companies in Francophone Africa. By automating routine tasks and utilizing AI for functions such as CV scoring and job description creation, Socium enables HR managers to focus on strategic initiatives, thereby contributing to the overall development of the region’s workforce.

As Socium continues to expand its footprint, it aims to play a pivotal role in modernizing HR processes across Africa, increasing efficiency and competitiveness in the job market. The company’s strategic focus on Francophone Africa positions it as a leader in the region’s HRTech industry, with plans to further scale its operations and impact.
