Flutterwave’s cross-border remittance product, Send, has launched a physical Naira travel card aimed at Nigerians returning home from the diaspora for the festive season. Called the Send App Travel Card, the product was developed in partnership with Odysy, a business expense management and technology firm, and AfriGO, the Nigerian domestic card scheme.

“For years, we’ve helped Nigerians abroad support life at home through fast, reliable remittances,” said Harvey Bahia, Head of Send App Business at Flutterwave. “Now, for the first time, we’re giving them a physical way to spend with the same ease and control when they return.”

The card addresses common challenges for returning Nigerians, including limited access to cash, fluctuating exchange rates, and issues with some foreign cards. According to the Nigerians in Diaspora Commission (NiDCOM), Nigerians living abroad spent at least ₦60 billion during their December homecoming visits in 2024 alone.

The Send App Travel Card allows users to make payments at domestic point-of-sale terminals, withdraw from ATMs, and use contactless payment options across Nigeria. The card can be funded through the SendApp platform using US, EU, or UK cards, and users can pre-order cards for delivery ahead of their arrival. Flutterwave says cards are typically available within 24 hours of ordering, with same-day delivery for Lagos and Abuja orders placed before 4 pm. The card does not require ATM activation and can be locked, frozen, or replaced directly from the app.

“Nigerians in the diaspora deserve a dependable way to spend locally, and together with AfriGO, we’ve built a product that works effortlessly across the country,” said Chinonso Nwosu, CEO of Odysy.

The launch follows Flutterwave’s multi-year partnership with Polygon Labs, a blockchain software company, aimed at enabling instant, low-cost settlements across Africa.
